Excellent repeat stay at the milking parlour. Spotlessly clean as usual. Lovely homemade breakfast items are always a treat- even a vegan cake for me! Really loved the new linen bedding and the luxury toiletries in the bathrooms. We will be back I’m sure!

18th March 2024:

My friend and I stayed at Little Norlington Barn for 3 nights whilst on a course in Lewes. It was spotlessly clean and cosy with good lighting and stylish interiors. The beds were also very comfortable and the bed linen and towels were of a high quality. Sandra and Miles were very welcoming and they sent a list of food and drink items to us before our visit so that we could tick what we would like for our stay. It was all either organic or homemade and the cake was absolutely delicious. Both bedroom windows had lovely countryside / garden views. The only slight negative is that the ceilings are very low in some places - this wasn't too bad for us because we are both quite short but if you are a tall person the barn wouldn't work for you. Apart from that I would definitely recommend.

Tips:

Lewes which is approximately 20 minutes drive is a lovely town with interesting shops and architecture.

A really lovely stay, would definitely like to come again. The place is dog friendly and has a large paddock for the dog to use, which is useful first thing in the morning. Sandra (lovely lady) was very accommodating as to our times of arrival and departure, which was handy. A great dog friendly find, thank you Sandra.

Tips:

Sandra recommend The Cock Inn and The Pelham Arms. Both were close by, serving delicious food. The accommodation provided plenty of information as to walks etc, unfortunately we weren’t able to make full use of them as we were only staying for 2 nights.

Excellent place to stay. We have been there both to go to Glyndebourne ( very convenient) or just to go walking in the area. The Milking Parlour is a very well equipped self contained apartment.

Tips:

We ate at the Fork in Lewes last time we were at Little Norlington. Good food. Good service. quite small though so booking early is probably a good idea.

You couldn’t have been more accommodating despite our very late notice booking. You were both super helpful in every aspect of our trip; recommending great walks that avoided the usual tourist options, suggesting a fantastic place for lunch, advising us how to avoid Lewes Bonfire night road closures just to name a few… It was a delight to meet you and stay at your wonderful property.

Tips:

I’m afraid due to the flying visit of our trip we can’t really share that much but The Cricketers at Alfriston was a great spot for lunch… next time we plan to explore in much more detail!

Sandra and Miles were very welcoming hosts who aimed to make our stay enjoyable in every way. The home-made goodies they left for us in the cottage were delicious. Our dogs had a lovely time too. Fields and a public foot path behind the house made it easy to exercise them.

Tips:

Seven sisters walk beside the river to the sea was lovely. Also Sheffield Park with its beautiful trees is worth a visit but unfortunately the dogs have to be on a lead. Stanmer Park is great for dogs and humans to run about.

This was a really relaxing and peaceful break in marvellous surroundings. The house was spotless and had everything we needed, including a welcome pack containing the best marmalade I've ever tasted! Sandra and Miles were the perfect hosts, friendly and helpful and able to give lots of ideas about places to go. The dogs were an added delight. We would highly recommend Little Norlington Barn and will definitely return. Thank you.

Tips:

Pevensey Bay is a great beach to visit, especially if you have a dog. The views from Firle Beacon are spectacular and Lewes has lovely shops and an excellent bakery. Bring binoculars as there is a wealth of wildlife to see from the Milking Parlour.

I loved my 4 day stay in the Milking Parlour. It was warm, comfortable, spotlessly clean and well equipped. Breakfast on the sunny patio was a delight as were the surrounding rural views. In the peace and quiet and security of the property I could relax and sleep well. The whole experience was enhanced by the warm welcome from the owner, Sandra who was available unobtrusively next door and willing to give of her time generously as needed. I would definitely like to return.

We loved our stay at the barn! The photos and reviews looked great, but frankly, actually being there exceeded all our expectations. The kitchen is well equipped, the bed was super comfortable, the power shower was excellent and the hosts were perfect (home-made baked goods, organic teas, and generally... hosts with the most). The location is idyllic, with views of the South Downs, quiet surroundings and a perfectly placed private patio. We really could not rate this stay enough, Sandra and Miles were just wonderful and have created a fantastic haven. Would definitely go again and will recommend anyone going to the area.

We have always enjoyed our stays in The Milking Parlour and continue to do so. Sandra and Miles are welcoming and warm hosts. The thoughtfulness of communication before arrival and during a stay are appreciated as are the home made and homely touches that distinguish holidays at The Milking Parlour. The care for the environment, mindfulness for home made produce and sustainability are very important ingredients.

Tips:

Do refer to the Little Norlington Barn website for ideas of things to see and do. There are also an interesting selection of leaflets in The Milking Parlour. For our recent stay, we enjoyed sitting on the terrace watching the Autumn mist shooed away by the sun. We had booked Little Norlington very early in the year for two nights to go to Glyndebourne and to do some walking. When Covid struck, we decided not just to keep the booking ( even though Glyndebourne was cancelled) but to extend it by one day so that we could, if possible, leave London and do some walking in a great location. We are very glad we did this. We had a lovely time, were made very welcome and even managed to get some tickets for one of the Glyndebourne outdoor performances. A great experience at a difficult time. Much to be recommended.

Tips:

We ate out twice at two local pubs, the Anchor Ringmer and the Cock Inn. Both good value, coping well with Covid, and close. Our only issue is that the portion size is very large for us but we may not be typical. Lots of good local walks. We went over to the reservoir and river Ouse one day. About 2-3km walking (each way) starting about 100 metres north of little Norlington on the left hand side of the road. Path a bit challenging to follow once over the A26. Also walked up onto the Downs from Glynde.

Well, what a find Little Norlington Barn was. We stayed there for 3 nights around attending Glyndebourne which is very close-by. Miles and Sandra who run the B&B, are absolutely amazing hosts and so friendly. Nothing is too much trouble, and the breakfasts were superb and included among other things, home-made muesli, fruit salad, spelt bread, croissants, and full English. Our room had our desired bath and was extremely comfortable, and very sympathetically and beautifully restored, as was the whole place, and a lot of it had been done by the hosts themselves. Miles and Sandra have two lovely wolfhounds that seemed to spend most of their time quietly asleep. The only disappointment was the weather, but that is England for you. We will be returning and would not hesitate to recommend LNB wholeheartedly.

Tips:

There are several pubs close by that do evening meals. Also a fish and chip shop, Indian restaurant, Dominoes pizza etc in Ringmer, which is close by and walk-able if the weather is kind. There is also walking from the LNB, and in Ashdown forest, among other places,as well as, of course the Downs. Lewes is worth a visit as is Standen House and Garden (NT), but a bit of a drive. Charleston House is fairly close-by as well, and well worth visiting.

We stayed in 'The Milking Parlour' a self contained converted barn building which was spotlessly clean, bright and very comfortable. It has a well equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge. The shower room is downstairs and has a good powerful walk in shower and good quality towels and toiletries. The attic style bedroom is large, has a comfortable double bed and fabulous views over the countryside. The area itself is very quiet, little or no traffic, a haven of peace and tranquility. Sandra and Miles could not have been more helpful with directions, local maps and recommendations for places to visit. A fantastic place to stay.

Tips:

We stayed here as it was close to Glyndbourne where we were visiting the opera. Glyndbourne is literally 10 minutes drive away. The location is also good for Seaford, Lewes and the Channel coast.

A friendly welcome from Sandra with tea (herbal tea for one of us) and delicious home made lemon drizzle cake.Peaceful country setting and ideally placed for Glyndebourne. We stayed in the Kicking Horse Suite-immaculate- with separate but very close bathroom and it's own staircase to suite so quite private- and with sittingroom with good views. Breakfast, in the dining room with other guests at a large table, was great-fresh berries, home made granola, yoghurt etc fruit juice, then choice of cooked breakfasts with croissants, toast etc. We saw the Stag Room which has an en suite after the other guests left which was equally attractive but different with sofa in the bedroom and king-size rather than double bed. We will definitely try to book next year as it was the best place we have found having tried a number of others over the years.

Sandra will advise on this

We stayed here for the Love Supreme 2017 jazz festival weekend at Glynde Place. It is just eight minutes drive away. Glyndebourne is even closer so it is an ideal location for these events. We loved it so much that we stayed on a couple of extra nights and used it as a base to explore the area. If there was ever a place for which five stars is not enough this is it. We stayed in the Stag Room which was not cheap at £150 per night, but we felt it was worth paying. Sandra and Miles actually let out two of the rooms in their luxurious converted barn and also a detached milking parlour. Whilst guests are in residence they live mainly in an annex at the rear. The location is rural, down a quiet lane, and there is plenty of parking space at the front. On arrival we were welcomed by Sandra with coffee and homemade cake. Throughout she made us feel at home and nothing was too much trouble. Every little thing had been thought of and we wanted for nothing. The breakfast was to die for. There was a choice of full English and salmon and scrambled egg for the main event. Everything was homemade (e.g. spelt bread, marmalade, granola) or organic and mostly locally sourced (e.g. bacon, sausages, eggs and even the coffee). There was yoghurt, fruit (e.g. strawberries, kiwi, mango, pineapple, cherries, raspberries, blueberries) and croissants. I've probably forgotten something! The room had a very comfortable double bed and sofa, Smart TV, bathroom with luxurious furnishings, sheets and towels etc. In the evening there are some excellent eating places locally in Lewes, Ringmer and nearby villages. Due to the location you really need to drive though. The nearest pub is about 20 minutes walk away. Sandra will be able to recommend. The quality was everywhere and it won't surprise you to know that we have our tickets for Love Supreme 2018 already and have booked to stay here again next year.

In addition, Sandra and Miles are warm, entertaining and knowledgable hosts. It would be remiss not to mention the outstanding breakfast. One of the best... ever!
