We had an absolutely fantastic time staying at Bo Peep Farmhouse. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Eileen and John and given a thorough tour of the property. The space was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated, providing a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. The location was perfect. Overall, our experience was nothing short of amazing. We cannot recommend Eileen and John’s property highly enough. Thank you for such a memorable stay—we will definitely be back!

Bopeep is a special place, located in a beautiful setting and just insists on relatation from arrival. Rooms are gorgeous with stunning views. The surrounding landscape and nature is simply spectacular. Ideal for hiking too with short but fabulous walks nearby. The breakfast was so fresh, served with such attentive care and both John and Eileen were great hosts. I really enjoyed every minute of my stay.
Tips:Take a walk to the local and listen for owls on the way home. Take in the breathtaking hilltop view or hike it if you can. We also visited a local church with magnificabt murals, not to be missed. The area is really fabulous for nature and photography.

The first thing that strikes you when you arrive is the stunning location, it’s breathtaking. Firle Beacon rises menacingly in front of you and the entire landscape demands you to explore. The Farmhouse itself is beautiful too. John and Eileen are wonderful hosts. Friendly, helpful and so very easy to have a chat with. They cook a lovely breakfast to set you up for the day ahead too! We stayed in the Firle Room which has a lovely dual aspect one of which is a fantastic view of Firle Beacon and we were rewarded with beautiful sunsets and even a super moon! There are some great walks from the doorstep. The Old Coach Rd runs either side of the Farmhouse taking you to Firle one way and the lovely villages of Alciston and Berwick the other. This road will also allow you a walking route to Alfriston too. All in all we loved it and will definitely be going back to Bo Peep.
Tips:There is easy and convenient visitor parking. We walked to the Cricketers Inn in Berwick along the Old Coach Rd, which serves lovely food and local beers. Alciston village is an easy walk. You can also easily walk to the summit of Bo Peep from the Farmhouse.

We enjoyed a lovely 2 night stay at Bopeep Farmhouse. Our hosts, Eileen and John, gave us a very warm welcome and were very friendly. The breakfast was freshly cooked for us and delicious. The room was comfortable and clean with lovely views.
Tips:Bo peep Farmhouse is in a perfect location for walking, cycling and exploring the local countryside. We were able to walk across the fields to nearby Charleston House. (It’s a brilliant location for enthusiasts of the Bloomsbury group!). We ate two delicious meals at The Ram Inn (Firle) and Cricketers Arms (Berwick), both lovely old pubs. Historic Lewes also very close by.

29th July 2024:
Beautiful farmhouse tucked at the foot of the South Downs well off the A27 on the old coach road track. We know the area well and walked from the Ram where we ate following our wedding and our bags were dropped off earlier in the day and were waiting for us in our room. With windows on 2 sides of the room as well as in the bathroom we loved the old farmhouse style with sash windows and as a couple of oldies we loved relaxing in the armchairs on our arrival at sunset following a busy day. The breakfast was wonderful with a good choice, nice chopped fresh fruit and yoghurt as well as local bacon and sausages and free range eggs. Marmalade and jams were homemade and the proprietors were very friendly and chatty. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a very happy stay and plan to return for our anniversary next year.
Tips:The food at the Ram in Firle was good. We had intended to eat at The Cricketers at Berwick on the Sunday but after visiting Birling Gap and Littlington Tea Gardens we realised that on a Sunday The Cricketers stops serving food at 5pm. However, we discovered that the village stores was open in Alfriston until 6pm on a Sunday and bought a selection of tasty food for a picnic.

A very friendly couple who felt like family after the first meeting. Very knowledgable about the area. The location of the Farmhouse is beautiful, very peaceful and serene, yet just a stones throw off the A27. Great breakfasts! Can't wait to go back again.
Tips:Go to see Berwick Church, very close by - amazing paintings by the "Bloomsbury set", also Charleston Farmhouse at Firle. Visit The Church of the Good Shepherd at Wilmington. Can be quite difficult to find but well worth persevering. A tiny, tiny church in a lovely position. The Long Man, also at Wilmington, an amazing view from quite close up. The Clergy House in Alfriston. Very interesting, and has a pretty little garden at the back. Also Alfriston village. Beachy Head. Wow what a find! From the moment we arrived to when we left was a pure joy. John and Eileen are so warm and friendly and very happy to share their knowledge of the area. We received such a warm greeting, our room was spotlessly clean, amazing views of the surrounding countryside, freshly cooked delightful breakfasts, lots of laughter, bird song to wake us in the morning - what more could we want. We are already planning a return visit. We thoroughly recommend a stay at Bo-peep Farmhouse- we are already planning a return visit!! Thank you so much both of you.
Tips:We ate at The Sussex Ox which we thoroughly enjoyed, excellent food. There are so many places to walk and visit just from the Farmhouse in fact spoilt for choice.

We had a fantastic stay at Bo-peep Farmhouse whilst walking the South Downs Way. Eileen and John are the perfect hosts and it was a real pleasure chatting to them and getting some of their vast local knowledge! The house itself is in a superb location a short walk off the trail - a very quiet and peaceful spot. The room was lovely and we could tell the care and attention to detail that went into preparing it. It was extremely clean and comfortable with lots of nice touches. The breakfast was delicious with a selection of cereal, yoghurt and very nice fresh fruit salad, followed by a cracking full English to order! This was our favourite place that we stayed in our week hiking the trail and I would highly recommend it. Thank you to Eileen and John for a really nice experience.

Excellent b&b in great and quiet location. John and Eileen very welcoming and go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. Very comfortable bed and powerful shower. Breakfast was one of the best we’ve had after staying at many b&b’s. Great cereal and fruit selection followed by freshly cooked breakfast. Toast brought to the table with breakfast so not cold! All in all highly recommended and we’ll be back for sure. There is so much more to this area than you may appreciate.
Tips:Close proximity to many attractions in South Downs national park. Bout 10/15 minutes from Eastbourne attractions and theatres. Few minutes from Historic villages of Alfriston and Firle. Firle House well worth a visit and a has a quality cafe with terrace. Nearby are the Longman and white horse hillside features, together with the Longman brewery. Also try and find the quaint little church at Lullington and the attractively decorated church at Berwick village. For picturesque views don’t miss Firle beacon

As regards facilities the farmhouse had everything we needed. It’s situation was perfect with easy walks from the door. The room was incredibly comfortable - from the soft towels to the mini chocolate bars - and the breakfasts delicious. John and Eileen were so welcoming and run Bo Peep so well. Thank you!
Tips:Recommend the Cricketers in Berwick for lunch or dinner, as well as The George and Wingrove House in Alfriston. So much to do without straying far - Berwick Church and Middle Farm shop to name just two.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, many thanks to John and Eileen for making us feel so welcome, and for advice, recommendations etc.
Tips:Cricketers Arms, Berwick and Barley Mow good local pubs for dinner; Wingrove House in Alfriston even better but more expensive. Of local ‘sights’, Berwick Church with its Bloomsbury Group paintings is very special, and lots to enjoy in Alfriston. Its village stores is excellent, great choices for picnic lunch.

We have been coming here for many years on our annual visits to Glyndebourne. Last year of course, the pandemic called a halt to everything. But John and Eileen have weathered that storm and Bo-Peep is welcoming and comfortable as it has always been. It is a real little gem, nestling in a beautiful corner of the South Downs. Immaculately kept with really delicious breakfasts, you will want to come back again and again, as we do, to this delightful old farmhouse.
Tips:Glyndebourne of course for opera fans if you can get tickets well in advance. Otherwise, enjoy the walks along the South Downs Way and the ancient town of Lewes, the Bloomsbury Group’s farmhouse at Charleston for its festival of great lectures in May and open visits at other times. And just the lovely villages and country side which are quintessentially English.

Tips:Eat at 2 local pubs which are withing 1/2 hours walking distance. Both were fine although the meal at the Cricketers was superb as was the service. We had a day of rain so we spent it in Lewes which was really interesting & recommended. We also visited Alfriston & Seaford & Seven Sisters. All well worth a visit.

What a wonderful situation for a great B&B. Bo Peep Farm sits on the side of an old coaching road just under the South Downs. Great walking from the door step, either along the coaching road to Firle, Berwick, Alfriston or onto the South Downs Way. Glyndebourne is only a few minutes drive away if you don't fancy walking to the Opera. The accommodation has every thing you need, very clean, comfortable bed, views across the open country side, great pwoer shower in the on-suite, great choice of teas, coffee, tasty biscuits and a bowl of chocolates which is always kept topped up. The greakfast is very good and tasty which sets you up for the day. Eileen and John are great hosts full of information and ideas and make you very welcome as well as schooling you on the local pronunciations of the villages. Looking forward to our next visit

Wonderful old farmhouse in a lovely quiet location (apart from the fantastic bird song obviously!) and equally wonderful hosts. John very kindly dropped us off at the pub and again at the top of the hill for the next day's walk (very steep = very grateful!). Sad not to see Mrs Mills (ask John when you get there) and also sad to leave for the grubbiness of Eastbourne....will be back to Bo Peep soon!
Tips:We were approaching the end of the South Downs Way - Bo Peep B&B is half a mile below the Bo Peep car park on the Way so the B&B is very handy for walkers. The pub at the end of the road (about a mile of easy walking) is OK but nothing special - to be honest after walking 16 or so miles I would have eaten anything.

Lovely rural location on the South Downs. Beautiful house with clean, well-equipped rooms and en-suites. A warm welcome from Eileen and John, who could not have done more to meet our needs. Delicious breakfast in a relaxed, cosy atmosphere. Information about the area on leaflets as well as more personal help from the hosts.
Tips:There is so much to do and see, from walking to sightseeing in the nearby towns and villages. Fresh country and sea air. We visited Brighton, Herstmonceaux castle and science centre and Drusillas. Country pubs and tea rooms were great.

Stunning location. Lovely walks from the front gate in all directions. And or short drives to wide range of local places of interest. Our favourite was Charlston house a 20 minute walk across the fields and we were delighted to hear that Bopeep farmhouse was lived in by one of the Bloomsbury set too. Comfortable stay (sunlit rural views from both bedroom windows and a good bed too) with great attention to detail – e.g. tiny tooth brush kit, Laundry bag, dairy milk choc snacks, excellent breakfast coffee just as we asked for it to be, lots of local information both written and personally recommended. Friendly hosts and other guests, though not intrusive.
Tips:Good pub with interesting menu in nearby village of Berwick where you mustn’t miss the beautiful church. The walk from the farmhouse up onto the South Downs Way was a bit steep but perfectly doable and is also driveable by another route. The potter at the top of the lane and her bird baths are absolutely fascinating. We saw pheasants strolling around everywhere!

From the first hello to the fond farewell when we left after two days, my wife and I felt we were among friends. We could not have asked for better hosts. Having wandered past the farmhouse on numerous occasions, and imagined staying there, we were not disappointed -by the outlook, accommodation, generous breakfasts, or by our treatment from John and Eileen. We will be back!
Tips:Good atmosphere at the Rose Garden Inn at Alciston; murals in Berwick church; beautiful Saxon church at Bishopstone (near Seaford); lots of excellent walking from Bopeep car park on the Downs above the farmhouse, and along the old Coach Road to Alfriston. Walk along the Cuckmere River from Alfriston to Seaford Head; or from Alfriston to Wilmington, Folkington and Jevington. There's a lifetime of walks to be had on the Downs!

Only minus is steep narrow steps up to the three rooms .This could be difficult for someone with any degree of disability . The turnoff from the main road on to Bo- Peep road is quite dangerous as there is a hill just after, so needs to be approached wire caution . Watch out for the Barley Mow pub and take it steady after that till you reach the right turn .
Tips:A short drive leads to the top of the hill and a well known walking path over the Downs . Charleston is close by on the main road and plenty of other interesting places not far by car . The coast is not far away and Newhaven ferry can be viewed from the top of the hill at the end of Bo- Peep Road .

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had everything we needed including a ride up to the start of a wonderful walk (ramble) on the downs. The location is very good, close to the ancient town of Alfriston, Berwick church and Virginia Woolf's home at the Charleston farmhouse.
Tips:This property is as old and historic as many other buildings in the area. This means low ceilings so watch your head. My wife and I preferred the 'Star' Inn in Alfriston for lunch indoors and the outdoor tables and garden at the 'Cricketer' both in Alfriston. For tea and scones we loved the tea gardens at Litlington close by.

Tips:The location is beautifull nestled below the Sussex Downs. With some very nice walks in all directions. We especially liked the walk from nearby historic Alfriston along the Cuckmere river to the Cuckmere Haven where the river meets the sea. The accommodation was of a high standard from a comfortable bed and super shower to the finer details. There was a wide selection of tea and coffee (even hot chocolate) as well as complementary toiletries, so even if you forget a few basics they are there for you. A wonderful base for walkers as it sits half way between Firle and Alfriston. John and Eileen were very helpful with advise on walking routes and where to eat.
Tips:Rose Cottage Inn, situated in the picturesque downland village of Alciston, serves delicious food at competitive prices and is within walking distance of Bo-Peep along the old coach road. In Alfriston, Badgers Tea Room is a must for delicious beverages and food (especially their elderflower and gooseberry cake) as well as The Tudor Tea Rooms. For walkers, try Alfriston to Jevington and lunch at The Eight Bells in Jevington or walk from Bo-Peep Farmhouse to The Beanstalk tea room for a heavenly selection of cakes in a delightful garden. Berwick church, with its allegorical murals, is also well worth a visit, particularly after visiting Charleston.

We came to the area for a wedding, and decided to make a little weekend of it. Staying at bo-peep was perfect. We took an easy country walk, straight from the front door, and there is plenty to see and do right from the doorstep, without having to be in "town". But mostly, the owners were so helpful and hospitable, showing our toddler the dogs, rescuing is from our walk when we were delayed (without us even asking) and dropping us at our activity, so we wouldn't struggle with bags. Eileen and John could not have been more welcoming or kinder to us. We were walking on the South Downs Way and were rather late, and John actually drove up to see if he could see us coming as it was dark. The room was warm, spotlessly clean and well equipped. The beds were so comfortable with beautiful linen. The Jacuzzi bath was wonderful for easing aching muscles! We slept really soundly. There was a lovely range of different teas etc in the room and chocolates which were a welcome treat after our 14 mile walk. Eileen even found us a slice of cake to have with our tea. In the morning breakfast was delicious and Eileen was on hand to offer advice about our route and things to do in the area. All in all a real home from home. I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.
Tips:We were too exhausted to bother going out to the pub, so can't comment on that. We found the scenery on the downs really beautiful though and enjoyed visiting Alfriston where we bought a delicious picnic lunch in the post office which doubles a delicatessen. Not especially cheap but really good quality food including local cheese.

Excellent location for some lovely walks on and around the Sussex Downs and not far to drive to the sea. Much to see and do in the area; we went for Glyndbourne and had an extra couple of very enjoyable days.
Tips:Hosts Eileen and John provided tips for what to do and where to eat locally, all of which we much enjoyed.

Eileen & John were very welcoming and helpfully provided us with a range of options in terms of exploring the area on foot- we weren’t very prepared! We got super drenched on our first day and so it was a bonus to have our boots dried out ready for the next hike! Plenty of hot water was also appreciated as were the extra little touches in the bedroom.
Tips:If you like the B&B concept then we would most certainly suggest a few days stay at Bo-peep Farmhouse; there is so much to see in and around the locality. We particularly enjoyed Charleston House; if you are walking in the direction of Firle make sure you stop off at the Beanstalk Café.

It was a delight staying at this B&B. The owners were very welcoming, thoughtful and caring. They went beyond the call of duty in making our stay a good and comfortable one by offering to pick me up from the station, booking a table at the local pub restaurant, drying our clothes after a downpour and helping to dry out our shoes. The room was very clean and comfortable with plenty of space and tea making facilities. I would highly recommend them.

The bathroom is perhaps the weak spot - we prefer a bath to a shower, and the basin is small and rather cramped, with no shelf to put things on. But overall a lovely room in a beautiful place. We appreciated the kettle and biscuits, and the chocolates, and you looked after us wonderfully well. We would love to come again.
Would Recommend: Yes
Owner Response:Such a shame that you didn't say about the bath because the room with the bath was available during your stay and you could have had it. I admit the shelving in the en-suite is not over the basin, but as the house is 400 years old, it was a bit tricky to fit everything in, so sadly, that had to be a compromise. But glad it didn't ruin your stay and we look forward to you coming back.

We both really enjoyed our stay with Eileen and John at Bo-peep Farmhouse and Eileen was very accommodative with our last minute arrangements. The rooms were clean, spacious, comfortable and of a high standard with all the expected facilities. Breakfast was really good from the fruit, juice and cereals to the much anticipated full English! And all served up in a delightful country cottage feel dining room. John and Eileen both went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable and were genuinely thoughful hosts. So glad we stayed! Thank you!
Tips:Plan your arrival time with some to spare and have a torch to hand or head if arriving later in the day (or dark early evening as we did!) The local pub's food was really tasty. There seemed to be a mix of pub classics and locally sourced/made food. But when in Rome.. The moules, meat pie and fish pie were all excellent! I'm not sure the curry would have been as good (but could be wrong..)
