I spent a very comfortable, quiet and relaxing night in the beautiful setting of Bo-peep Farmhouse. John and Eileen were warm, friendly and extremely hospitable hosts. The location is stunning with many walks from the front door. The breakfast was generous and very tasty. I look forward to returning soon. Thank you.

Lovely B&B! Very comfortable with gorgeous rooms, delicious breakfast and friendly hosting from Eileen & John.

Tips:

Stay here if you are going to Hunter, Gather Cook as 10 minutes walk down the (slightly muddy!) track. Great for Glyndebourne or if you are going walking in the local area. Lovely pub down the road with great food - The Cricketers.

We were made to feel extremely welcome. Our room had lovely views of the South Downs. Also loved all of the thoughtful touches in the room. Great selection for breakfast and it was a welcomed start to the day. In terms of location it was ideal for attending an event at Hunter Gather Cook. We would definitely stay there again.

Booking was very easy, quick responses to every question. We came to see family with our 3 year old so we had a bed in our room for him. Hosts were lovely and gave us a map for a superb walk 8km loop, pub half way for refreshments. The b&b was immaculate and very comfortable. Delicious breakfast with fresh fruit and a hot option, with lots of homemade jam and local honey. Thankyou John and Eileen! We’ll be back! Highly recommend.

The Farmhouse was a lovely place to stay, with very comfortable rooms and an excellent breakfast, and convivial chat with the hosts and other guests. John and Eileen made us feel very welcome and gave us good advice on the area. We were sorry to be there for just one night!

Tips:

This is a great place to stay if you are exploring all the places with Bloomsbury connections - Charleston Farmhouse, Monk's House, Berwick Church are all nearby, plus the lovely village of Alfriston and more. We were glad to have been given the tip to drive up to the top of Bo-Peep Lane to see the stunning views. We had dinner at the George Inn in Alfriston, which is highly recommended.

Fantastic house and location with dreamy views. Both John and Irene were lovely hosts and couldn't do enough to help us out. Sadly we had to leave very early in the morning, so missed out on what would have been a top home cooked breakfast. I'll be back!

Tips:

Had a lovely lunch and beers in The Cricketers pub just five minutes away in a small village called Berwick. If you have time, make sure you walk up onto the south downs as well for breathtaking views.

John & Eileen are excellent hosts & engage nicely with visitors. They are helpful & knowledgeable about what to do & where to go locally. The bedrooms are not huge but are very well furnished, have tremendous views & the beds are very comfortable, plus there are little stashes of chocolates!

There are beautiful walks from the front door to the remarkable painted church at Berwick, Charleston Farmhouse (country home of the Bloomsbury Group), Firle village & much else. Excellent b&b in great and quiet location. John and Eileen very welcoming and go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. Very comfortable bed and powerful shower. Breakfast was one of the best we’ve had after staying at many b&b’s. Great cereal and fruit selection followed by freshly cooked breakfast. Toast brought to the table with breakfast so not cold! All in all highly recommended and we’ll be back for sure. There is so much more to this area than you may appreciate.

Tips:

Close proximity to many attractions in South Downs national park. Bout 10/15 minutes from Eastbourne attractions and theatres. Few minutes from Historic villages of Alfriston and Firle. Firle House well worth a visit and a has a quality cafe with terrace. Nearby are the Longman and white horse hillside features, together with the Longman brewery. Also try and find the quaint little church at Lullington and the attractively decorated church at Berwick village. For picturesque views don’t miss Firle beacon

A gentle walk up the hill (with plenty of stops), along the top and then down to the café at Charleston for lunch, followed by a return along the coach road makes a good circular saunter.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, many thanks to John and Eileen for making us feel so welcome, and for advice, recommendations etc.

Tips:

Cricketers Arms, Berwick and Barley Mow good local pubs for dinner; Wingrove House in Alfriston even better but more expensive. Of local ‘sights’, Berwick Church with its Bloomsbury Group paintings is very special, and lots to enjoy in Alfriston. Its village stores is excellent, great choices for picnic lunch.

Hidden Gem! Eileen & Jon are the perfect hosts making us feel very welcome. We had stunning views of the South Downs in our double-aspected room. We really enjoyed the breakfasts which were always served piping hot, preceded by a nice selection of fruit, yogurt and cereal. Was nice to chat to the fellow guests in the dining room. Looking forward to our return trip.

We have been coming here for many years on our annual visits to Glyndebourne. Last year of course, the pandemic called a halt to everything. But John and Eileen have weathered that storm and Bo-Peep is welcoming and comfortable as it has always been. It is a real little gem, nestling in a beautiful corner of the South Downs. Immaculately kept with really delicious breakfasts, you will want to come back again and again, as we do, to this delightful old farmhouse.

Tips:

Glyndebourne of course for opera fans if you can get tickets well in advance. Otherwise, enjoy the walks along the South Downs Way and the ancient town of Lewes, the Bloomsbury Group’s farmhouse at Charleston for its festival of great lectures in May and open visits at other times. And just the lovely villages and country side which are quintessentially English.

Fabulous stay at Bo-Peep. John & Eileen couldn't have been more help. We'll certainly be back. It's a great location & perfect for exploring the area. You don't even have to get back in your car if you don't want to!

Tips:

Eat at 2 local pubs which are withing 1/2 hours walking distance. Both were fine although the meal at the Cricketers was superb as was the service. We had a day of rain so we spent it in Lewes which was really interesting & recommended. We also visited Alfriston & Seaford & Seven Sisters. All well worth a visit.

What a wonderful situation for a great B&B. Bo Peep Farm sits on the side of an old coaching road just under the South Downs. Great walking from the door step, either along the coaching road to Firle, Berwick, Alfriston or onto the South Downs Way. Glyndebourne is only a few minutes drive away if you don't fancy walking to the Opera. The accommodation has every thing you need, very clean, comfortable bed, views across the open country side, great pwoer shower in the on-suite, great choice of teas, coffee, tasty biscuits and a bowl of chocolates which is always kept topped up. The greakfast is very good and tasty which sets you up for the day. Eileen and John are great hosts full of information and ideas and make you very welcome as well as schooling you on the local pronunciations of the villages. Looking forward to our next visit

What a glorious spot, tucked right into the South Downs, with walks from the front door. John and Eileen are perfect hosts, friendly and informative but never intrusive. Their gorgeous little b&b is scrupulously clean and the pictures don’t do the rooms justice - our twin room looked quite cramped in the photo but was actually spacious and stylish. And, oh the perfect peace at night! Mum and I stayed only one night but you coukd easily while away a week here, there’s so much to do roundabouts, besides walking the beautiful South Downs Way.

Tips:

Chraleston Farmhouse - you can walk the ancient coach road to it from Bo Peep Farmhouse - offers a fascinating glimpse into the eccentric and saucy lives of the Bloomsbury Group of artists.

We loved every minute of our stay there. John and Eileen were very welcoming; the room was clean and comfortable with an excellent view of the garden; the breakfast was perfect. I could not fault it and plan to stay there again.

Tips:

There are some lovely walks and both Charleston house and Berwick Church are nearby. Unfortunately, Charleston is closed on Monday and Tuesday, the days we were there. We ate at the Barley Mow and the Cricketers, both within walking distance, and walked on one day to Alfriston village and along part of the South Downs Way. Beautiful.

Beautiful setting, quiet, you can go for a walk straight out the front door. Helpful advice on local pubs.

Tips:

The South Downs on a sunny day! Lifts the spirits. Lullington Heath is great for butterflies and very few visitors. Be aware that the car park in Jevington is max 2 hours only which just gives you time to go up and come straight down again, so not quite sure what it’s for. But a glorious visit, nevertheless.

This is a very welcoming, comfortable, well-run B and B. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed meeting them and all their other guests too. Our room was quiet, very clean and comfortable, with a lovely view of the garden and hills. Breakfast was freshly cooked for us and always delicious. The bathroom was excellent, the bed very comfy and the tea and coffee-making facilities generously replenished each day.

Tips:

If you like walking, this B and B is really well situated, very close to the South Downs Way. For lovers of culture, there are masses of places to visit nearby. Charleston Farmhouse is a shortish walk away, Glyndebourne, Lewes, Rodmell and Alfriston Clergy House are all very close. Don’t miss the Seven Sisters and Cuckmere Haven! There are plenty of pubs nearby which serve great beer and good food.

28th June 2019:

Wonderful old farmhouse in a lovely quiet location (apart from the fantastic bird song obviously!) and equally wonderful hosts. John very kindly dropped us off at the pub and again at the top of the hill for the next day's walk (very steep = very grateful!). Sad not to see Mrs Mills (ask John when you get there) and also sad to leave for the grubbiness of Eastbourne....will be back to Bo Peep soon!

Tips:

We were approaching the end of the South Downs Way - Bo Peep B&B is half a mile below the Bo Peep car park on the Way so the B&B is very handy for walkers. The pub at the end of the road (about a mile of easy walking) is OK but nothing special - to be honest after walking 16 or so miles I would have eaten anything.

Stunning location. Lovely walks from the front gate in all directions. And or short drives to wide range of local places of interest. Our favourite was Charlston house a 20 minute walk across the fields and we were delighted to hear that Bopeep farmhouse was lived in by one of the Bloomsbury set too. Comfortable stay (sunlit rural views from both bedroom windows and a good bed too) with great attention to detail – e.g. tiny tooth brush kit, Laundry bag, dairy milk choc snacks, excellent breakfast coffee just as we asked for it to be, lots of local information both written and personally recommended. Friendly hosts and other guests, though not intrusive.

Tips:

Good pub with interesting menu in nearby village of Berwick where you mustn’t miss the beautiful church. The walk from the farmhouse up onto the South Downs Way was a bit steep but perfectly doable and is also driveable by another route. The potter at the top of the lane and her bird baths are absolutely fascinating. We saw pheasants strolling around everywhere!

We will be back!

Tips:

Good atmosphere at the Rose Garden Inn at Alciston; murals in Berwick church; beautiful Saxon church at Bishopstone (near Seaford); lots of excellent walking from Bopeep car park on the Downs above the farmhouse, and along the old Coach Road to Alfriston. Only minus is steep narrow steps up to the three rooms .This could be difficult for someone with any degree of disability . The turnoff from the main road on to Bo- Peep road is quite dangerous as there is a hill just after, so needs to be approached wire caution . Watch out for the Barley Mow pub and take it steady after that till you reach the right turn .

Tips:

A short drive leads to the top of the hill and a well known walking path over the Downs . Charleston is close by on the main road and plenty of other interesting places not far by car . The coast is not far away and Newhaven ferry can be viewed from the top of the hill at the end of Bo- Peep Road .

Warm and cosy with a really good cooked breakfast! Sarah was suffering from a cold but we had lovely day in Eastbourne on the Friday, a good meal that evening and followed your walk into Alfreston on Saturday stopping for coffee and back via Berwick church. Thank you for such a friendly welcome.....and those chocolates which were demolished on the first evening....for medicinal purposes of course!

Tips:

Perfectly situated for access onto the 'South Downs Way'. A typically tile hung Kentish Sussex home, warm and cosy, the rooms and breakfast were to a high standard which coupled with kind hosts made for a memorable weekend. Thank you. Should we stay with you again then we shall try the 'Barley Mo' up the road

Eileen and John were welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed our chats over breakfast (lovely breakfasts!). The room was comfortable with lovely views over the countryside. Nice bathroom. We intend to return to do the walks we missed.

Tips:

It was a shame we had such bad weather but we loved that we could forget the car and walk straight from the farmhouse. Due to Friday's terrible weather we didnt get to walk as much as planned but the walk to Alfriston and along by the river was lovely. Lots of good pubs around. We particularly liked the Cricketers at Berwick.

We arrived with the warmest of welcomes from John and Eileen, the bed and breakfast exceeded our expectations, it was so clean with everything we needed in the room and more. The location is just perfect and we wished we had more time to explore the area. Eileen and John were very kind to recommend a lovely place to eat and kindly took us home from the restaurant, it seemed like nothing was too much for them.we attended a wedding in the area and again Eileen and John did everything they took to make sure we were organised for the day with taxis etc and even took us to the venue the next day to pick up our hire car . We would love to visit in the near future again. Thank you John and Eileen for everything.

Bo Peep Farmhouse is the most wonderful place to stay. A beautiful location, near Glyndebourne and with walks on the South Downs or to Charleston, Berwick and Alfriston (personalised maps provided) A lovely room with cotton sheets, thick towels and a good shower. Delicious breakfasts with local produce and home made preserves. And Eileen and John are the perfect hosts. Do go!

Tips:

The local pub (within walking distance) does good food, as does the Cricketers in Berwick. The church at Berwick and Charleston (the home of Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell)are both lovely. Near Charleston there's a pretty tea room/café with delicious home made cakes in a large garden. South Downs walks (from the farmhouse) and the cliff walks are great. John and Eileen have lots of advice and maps.

Great breakfast - variety offered . Only 3 rooms so not suitable for a large party . No single rooms . Steep staircase to rooms but rails on both sides and help is offered with suitcases. No problem for most people but if disabled - not sure . South Downs trail not far away and great views from Bo Peep car park towards Glyndebourne and to the ferry port at Seahaven on the other side of the summit . This is not really suitable for children .

Tips:

The Ram at Firle has very good food as do many other pubs in the area . The owners of the B&B are a mine of information as to what is available to do and see.

This time they provided facilities for us to change for the opera, after we had technically checked out and chilled our champagne. Towels are generous and fluffy, bottled water, chocolates, and biscuits are all in the room.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had everything we needed including a ride up to the start of a wonderful walk (ramble) on the downs. The location is very good, close to the ancient town of Alfriston, Berwick church and Virginia Woolf's home at the Charleston farmhouse.

Tips:

This property is as old and historic as many other buildings in the area. This means low ceilings so watch your head. My wife and I preferred the 'Star' Inn in Alfriston for lunch indoors and the outdoor tables and garden at the 'Cricketer' both in Alfriston. For tea and scones we loved the tea gardens at Litlington close by.

Eileen and John are extremely welcoming and friendly hosts. They run a very proffessional bed and breakfast with comfortable and well kept bedrooms. The rooms have all the items that you would normally expect to find in a hotel.Assorted teas, coffee and chocolate drinks along with nice bisciuts.Toiletries are supplied in the on suite bathrooms along with nice absorbent bath and face towels. The rooms have hairdryers, boxes of tissues and good wardrobe space. At the breakfast table there is all that you could want and of course if required a very nicely cooked breakfast.

Tips:

The location is beautifull nestled below the Sussex Downs. With some very nice walks in all directions. We especially liked the walk from nearby historic Alfriston along the Cuckmere river to the Cuckmere Haven where the river meets the sea. There are some very nice pubs serving excellent food nearby. On the nights we stayed we used the Rose Inn and enjoyed some really nice food and wine.

15th August 2016:

The accommodation was of a high standard from a comfortable bed and super shower to the finer details. There was a wide selection of tea and coffee (even hot chocolate) as well as complementary toiletries, so even if you forget a few basics they are there for you. A wonderful base for walkers as it sits half way between Firle and Alfriston. John and Eileen were very helpful with advise on walking routes and where to eat.

Tips:

Rose Cottage Inn, situated in the picturesque downland village of Alciston, serves delicious food at competitive prices and is within walking distance of Bo-Peep along the old coach road. In Alfriston, Badgers Tea Room is a must for delicious beverages and food (especially their elderflower and gooseberry cake) as well as The Tudor Tea Rooms. For walkers, try Alfriston to Jevington and lunch at The Eight Bells in Jevington or walk from Bo-Peep Farmhouse to The Beanstalk tea room for a heavenly selection of cakes in a delightful garden. Berwick church, with its allegorical murals, is also well worth a visit, particularly after visiting Charleston.

We came to the area for a wedding, and decided to make a little weekend of it. Staying at bo-peep was perfect. We took an easy country walk, straight from the front door, and there is plenty to see and do right from the doorstep, without having to be in "town". But mostly, the owners were so helpful and hospitable, showing our toddler the dogs, rescuing is from our walk when we were delayed (without us even asking) and dropping us at our activity, so we wouldn't struggle with bags. Eileen and John could not have been more welcoming or kinder to us. We were walking on the South Downs Way and were rather late, and John actually drove up to see if he could see us coming as it was dark. The room was warm, spotlessly clean and well equipped. The beds were so comfortable with beautiful linen. The Jacuzzi bath was wonderful for easing aching muscles! We slept really soundly. There was a lovely range of different teas etc in the room and chocolates which were a welcome treat after our 14 mile walk. Eileen even found us a slice of cake to have with our tea. In the morning breakfast was delicious and Eileen was on hand to offer advice about our route and things to do in the area. All in all a real home from home. I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

Tips:

We were too exhausted to bother going out to the pub, so can't comment on that. We found the scenery on the downs really beautiful though and enjoyed visiting Alfriston where we bought a delicious picnic lunch in the post office which doubles a delicatessen. Not especially cheap but really good quality food including local cheese.

Eileen & John were very welcoming and helpfully provided us with a range of options in terms of exploring the area on foot- we weren’t very prepared! We got super drenched on our first day and so it was a bonus to have our boots dried out ready for the next hike! Plenty of hot water was also appreciated as were the extra little touches in the bedroom.

Tips:

If you like the B&B concept then we would most certainly suggest a few days stay at Bo-peep Farmhouse; there is so much to see in and around the locality. We particularly enjoyed Charleston House; if you are walking in the direction of Firle make sure you stop off at the Beanstalk Café.

Such a shame that you didn't say about the bath because the room with the bath was available during your stay and you could have had it. I admit the shelving in the en-suite is not over the basin, but as the house is 400 years old, it was a bit tricky to fit everything in, so sadly, that had to be a compromise. 2nd February 2015:

We both really enjoyed our stay with Eileen and John at Bo-peep Farmhouse and Eileen was very accommodative with our last minute arrangements. The rooms were clean, spacious, comfortable and of a high standard with all the expected facilities. Breakfast was really good from the fruit, juice and cereals to the much anticipated full English! And all served up in a delightful country cottage feel dining room. John and Eileen both went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable and were genuinely thoughful hosts. So glad we stayed! Thank you!

Tips:

Plan your arrival time with some to spare and have a torch to hand or head if arriving later in the day (or dark early evening as we did!) The local pub's food was really tasty. There seemed to be a mix of pub classics and locally sourced/made food. But when in Rome.. The moules, meat pie and fish pie were all excellent! I'm not sure the curry would have been as good (but could be wrong..)

16th October 2014:

lovely warm welcome. Very helpful in booking disabled space at Glynedbourne which I had missed doing! Great room, beds a bit narrow - was slightly worried I would fall out during the night

Owner Response:

We do try to help wherever we can. As to the beds, they are zip and link to make a king-size bed if a double is required, so the downside is they are very slightly narrower, but still comfortable, as you appreciated.

16th October 2014:

We had a lovely stay, and were made very welcome. A beautiful quiet spot and a great breakfast.

Tips:

Several magical pubs around, including the Rose Cottage in Alciston, a beautiful village. Had a great walk on the South Downs, maps provided by Bo Peep. Visit the church at Berwick to see the wall paintings.

Owner Response:

It's a tricky one fresh milk. We usually do offer it, but we obviously didn't on this occasion, for which we apologise. All of our milk is not supermarket, but fresh from the farm and is like milk used to be.

This was our third stay at Bo peep bed and breakfast. It's in a beautiful setting, perfect for a travellers rest after walking. There is a warm welcome waiting and an excellent pub a short walk away. Looking forward to our next visit
